Program Objectives
  • The goal of implementing a national spelling bee program in Algeria is rooted in the country’s strategic initiative to transition from French to English as a language of instruction in schools and universities. Recognizing the global significance of English proficiency in education and business, Algeria aims to equip its youth with the linguistic skills necessary to thrive in a competitive international landscape. The spelling bee program will serve as a pivotal tool in achieving this goal by fostering English language acquisition from an early age, promoting literacy, and instilling confidence in students to communicate effectively in English. By encouraging participation and celebrating linguistic achievement through friendly competition, Algeria seeks to cultivate a new generation of fluent English speakers who can contribute meaningfully to the nation’s socio-economic development and global integration.
  • The program will be conducted in two phases. In the first phase the grantee will organize regional competitions that in each of the Algerian wilayas where there is an American Corner: Oran, Ouargla, Bechar, Constantine and Algiers. In the second phase the grantee will organize the final National Spelling Bee where the winners from each regional competition will travel to Algiers for a final competition.
