You need legal transcription jobs from home if you want to build a career that allows you to work from home, plunge into interesting fields every day, and be able to have complete control over your schedule.
With this work from home, the flexibility of your hours depends in large part on the type of transcription job you get. Some of them are completely self-directed, some have specific transitions, and a lot fall somewhere in between.
If you work for a traditional copy company, you will likely be assigned specific work shifts. Shifts of transcription jobs usually change from home every six months. It should be very clear during the application process whether you are looking for a shift based job.
Other companies allow you to log in and work whenever you want. These jobs offer a greater degree of flexibility, although you may not always have a steady job.
You can also find transcription service companies that will give you a job at a deadline. The business owner doesn’t care when you do the work, as long as it gets done on time. If you are considering freelancing as a transcriber, a large portion of your work is likely to be organized.
Where can you get training for transcription jobs?
Public transcription does not require formal training. Legal transcription is often based on experience. Medical transcription usually requires an AHDI-approved certification. As you’d expect, legal and medical copies tend to pay a little more than generic transcription carts.

This does not mean that working as a generic transcriber cannot pay well. It all depends on your experience and where you find work. Plenty of places there allow anyone to get in and they pay literally only pennies. If you want to invest in your skills, you may be able to find clients who are willing to pay a premium for your services.
- CareerStep is my favorite recommendation for medical transcription and coding training. It is AHDI certified and allows you to complete your certification on your own time. Study aid is available, and it also helps with employment.
- TranscribeAnywhere offers in-depth public and legal transcription training. In addition to training, remote work courses include templates, contracts, and pricing assistance. A private Facebook group is also available.
Where can you find legal transcription jobs from home?
Many people need a copier these days. I even outsource my videos and podcasts to be copied for use in blog posts and subscriber gifts. And with the increasing popularity of video marketing, expect more of these opportunities to emerge.
In addition to bloggers and online business owners, insurance agents, attorneys, authors, doctors, churches, and others need to transcribe audio files.
