Call For Applications: ICFJ News Corp Media Fellowship for Digital Innovation 2024 (Funded)
Applications are now open for the ICFJ News Corp Media Fellowship for Digital Innovation 2024. In collaboration with News Corp and The Wall Street Journal, the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) offers journalists worldwide a chance to enhance their digital journalism skills and develop data- and/or digitally-driven projects.
The 2024 News Corp Media Fellowship program provides:
- Digital innovation training
- Grant funding
- Exclusive virtual newsroom placement with WSJ
This fellowship builds on previous iterations, providing journalists with immersive experiences in some of the world’s most digitally advanced newsrooms.
Eligibility: To qualify for the fellowship, journalists must:
- Attend two half-day webinars in April conducted by editors and reporters with expertise in digital tools, data journalism, visualization, artificial intelligence, mobile journalism, and audience engagement.
- Be one of five recipients of news innovation grants supporting data or digitally-driven projects. Only participants in both webinars can apply for these grants, which aim to foster new forms of storytelling, data journalism, visualization, or citizen engagement. Each grant recipient will also receive online editorial coaching and mentorship.
- Successfully complete both stages to be considered for the News Corp Media Fellowship.

The ideal fellow:
- Has experience as a reporter in a newsroom
- Currently works in a newsroom
- Possesses a strong news sense and curiosity
- Demonstrates collaborative skills
- Shows interest in audience engagement and community building
- Is digitally proficient but seeks to expand skills in digital strategy and project management
- Comes with project ideas to pursue during the fellowship
Benefits: During the fellowship, the journalist will spend two months (September 15 – November 15) embedded with WSJ, including 25 days in person at the WSJ’s New York City office. The selected fellow will:
- Contribute to WSJ projects on audience engagement analysis
- Lead peer-to-peer discussions
- Facilitate knowledge exchange
- Forge new partnerships with WSJ teams
- Have the opportunity for a one-week site visit to meet WSJ colleagues at the nearest bureau, including meetings with various teams and newsroom leaders
- Receive a stipend, and expenses during their stay in New York City will be covered
