Talented illustrators are now being invited to create works of art that tackle the topic of climate change as part of the “Art on Climate” International Illustration Competition. In addition to encouraging people to proactively make changes in their daily lives in response to the global challenge, the competition aims to serve as a forum for the sharing of creative ideas and workable solutions to solve climate change.

Art for Action

The fight against climate change demands not just scientific solutions and policy changes, but also a shift in public consciousness. The “Art on Climate” International Illustration Competition takes a creative approach to tackling this global challenge.

What are the Judges Looking For?

The jury will be seeking illustrations that are:

  1. Visually Captivating: The artwork should be visually compelling and grab the viewer’s attention.
  2. Thematically Relevant: The illustration should clearly address the theme of climate change and its impact.
  3. Creative and Innovative: The jury is looking for fresh perspectives and original approaches to the theme.
  4. Storytelling Potential: The best illustrations will tell a story, evoke emotions, and inspire action.

Beyond the Competition:

The “Art on Climate” competition goes beyond simply awarding prizes. The winning and selected artworks will be showcased in a virtual exhibition, further amplifying their message and reaching a wider audience. This creates an ongoing dialogue about climate change and its solutions.

Theme of the Competition: Climate Change

Participants are invited to submit original works on the theme of “climate change”. Participants should draw inspiration from one or more of the following topics as a starting point of their artworks

Eligibility

  1. Any person aged 18 or above*, from any location, is eligible to participate.

Artwork Specifications

  1. Must be original works relevant to the theme of the competition and submitted by participants on an individual basis.
  2. Each participant may submit up to a maximum of three artworks.
  3. The submitted artwork(s) must not have been previously published or used for any other purpose, and must not have been previously awarded or currently participating in other competition selections.
  4. No signatures, words, symbols or pictures that identify the participants may be placed on the submitted artwork(s).
  5. The artwork(s) must be in a flat image and created in colour.
  6. The artwork(s) can be created using any medium, including painting, computer software, and mixed media. However, artworks generated by artificial intelligence are not accepted. The use of photographs and clip art is prohibited.
  7. Should be in A3 size (297mm x 420mm), in either horizontal or vertical format.
  8. Must be uploaded in JPG format, with a resolution of no less than 300 dpi, and the total size of each entry should be no more than 10MB.
  9. Each artwork should be accompanied by a short description (minimum 30 words, maximum 100 words).

Awards and Exhibition

  1. Champion: e-certificate and prize of €2,000
  2. 1st runner-up: e-certificate and prize of €1,500
  3. 2nd runner-up: e-certificate and prize of €1,000
  4. Merit: e-certificate and prize of €150
  5. Champion, 1st runner-up, 2nd runner-up, and Merit winners will receive a customized award certificate by email.
  6. The winning artworks and selected other works will be put on display in a virtual exhibition.
  7. 53 winning artworks will be selected based on the 100-point scale that judges used for rating.
  8. The three artworks that received the highest number of points will be ranked as Champion, 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up accordingly, whereas the other 50 selected winning artworks will be ranked as Merit.

Timeline:

  1. Register and upload artwork: from 20 May 2024 to 31 July 2024 inclusive
  2. Results announcement: winners will be notified by email, and results will be announced on this page by 30 September 2024
