Call For Applications: Arrell Global Food Innovation Awards (Up to $125,000 CAD)

Presented annually since 2018, the Arrell Global Food Innovation Awards stand as a testament to the distinctive accomplishments and innovative endeavors of individuals and organizations worldwide. Two substantial prizes of $100,000 CAD each are bestowed in two distinguished categories: Research Innovation and Community Engagement Innovation.

These awards, provided annually, underscore the Arrell Food Institute’s acknowledgment of global leaders committed to ensuring future food security for the planet. The initiative aspires to kindle inspiration among new leaders, urging them to take audacious steps towards transformative change. In the quest to feed a burgeoning population exceeding 9 billion people, scientific brilliance and community engagement are deemed indispensable.

Fields of Achievement for the Scientific Award:

The first accolade honors a researcher or group of researchers displaying advanced expertise in areas such as food production, processing, distribution, consumption, safety, and human nutrition. The impact should be substantial and positive for society, encompassing disciplines like food science, crop or livestock genetics, agroecology, pest management, supply chain management, soil health, human nutrition, food processing, food packaging, or food safety.

Fields of Achievement for the Community Award:

The second award recognizes an individual or group of individuals contributing to improved nutritional health and food security, with a specific focus on fortifying disadvantaged communities. The purview spans household nutrition, urban poverty, Aboriginal food security, traditional food systems, socioeconomic policy, poverty elimination, or community development.

Requirements:

Nominees should have made exceptionally significant and well-documented contributions to scientific understanding related to food production, distribution, sales, or human nutrition/consumption, and/or at the community level in markedly enhancing nutrition or food accessibility. The nomination package must clearly delineate the critical leadership role played by the nominee in achieving the aforementioned contributions. Nomination packages should not function as proposals or funding requests. Nominees must be able to attend the award ceremony and related events.
