Job Title: Finance Controller (Accounting Manager – Local Nationals Only)

Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers
Employment Type: Full-time
Reports To: Director Accounting

Position Summary

  • First-line manager responsible for the day-to-day operations of an Accounting group.
  • Responsible for organizing, maintaining, and directing all general accounting activities and functions.
  • These include recording and maintenance of the company’s financial records, financial statement preparation, various managerial reporting, and supervision of the general accounting and payroll staff.
  • Supervises Accounting Supervisors or Accountants.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Directs the activities of the general accounting staff
  • Prepares monthly internal financial statements
  • Participates in the development of the Finance Department and operational budgets, as appropriate
  • Assists management in understanding the internal financial statements and answer any inquiries they may have
  • Provides financial expertise to internal management to assist them in various strategic and operating decisions
  • Requires employee to constantly type and use a computer and other office equipment, such as copier, printer, calendar, telephones, etc.
  • Oversees all monthly, quarterly and year end closings
  • Administers the preparation and distribution of timely and accurate operating/financial statements to internal management
  • Reviews all general ledger account analysis and ensure that the Company’s financial records are accurate
  • Coordinates year end audit with the external auditors and ensure that the year end audit package is accurate and complete
  • Prepares managerial reports as required, including product line profitability, price realization, analysis of allowances, etc.
  • Monitors and maintain the Company’s accounting systems, reviewing and upgrading as necessary

Requirements
Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance from a four-year College or University

Preferred Education:

  • MBA, CPA, or other designation a plus

Required Experience & Skills:

  • Proficient using complete Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) and PC skills
  • Proficient with email system; Microsoft Outlook preferred
  • Proficient using computer-based accounting system; Oracle preferred

Preferred Experience & Skills

  • Eight years accounting experience
  • Preferred Training & Certifications.

Physical Demand

  • Must be able to work under pressure
  • Must be able to work with the team in developing improved work processes for the department.
