The U.S. Mission to Nigeria comprises of the Embassy in Abuja, FCT, and the Consulate General in Lagos. U.S. Consulate General Lagos is the Mission’s representative to the Nigerian people in the southern region.

Summary

  • The work schedule for this position is: Full Time (40 hours per week)

    • Incumbent will travel to conduct background investigations and other  RSO operations and threat environment

Duties

Basic Function:

  • Working in the Regional Security Office (RSO), the Foreign Service National Investigator (FSNI) conducts security investigations and maintains liaison with local police and other security and law enforcement officials.
  • The FSNI assists the RSO team in coordinating protection for post personnel and visiting U.S. government officials, obtaining and reporting on information concerning potential security threats to post personnel, facilities, or information.

Qualifications and Evaluations
Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in law enforcement, military, private security, or investigation is required.

Job Knowledge:

  • Good working knowledge of the local and regional judicial system including criminal laws and procedures, and laws regarding military service, marriage divorce, and adoption is required.

Education Requirements:

  • A minimum of two (2) years University Studies is required.

Evaluations:

  • This may be tested. Please specify your level of proficiency in the language listed.

Language:

  • Good working knowledge reading / writing / speaking English is required.
  • Working level (ability to translate) in pidgin and fluent Reading / Writing / Speaking in one of the three major Nigerian languages: Hausa, Igbo or Yoruba is required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to conduct investigations with utmost discretion
  • Ability to draft correspondence and reports in English; and skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook applications.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team setting.

  • The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
