The Injini EdTech Fellowship Program, in collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation, presents a transformative 6-month equity-free venture support initiative, spanning from May to October 2024. The program takes a partnership-driven approach to business acceleration, focusing on three core objectives:

  1. Facilitate market access to extend the reach to learners at the ‘bottom of the pyramid.’
  2. Design, implement, or refine impact measurement, monitoring, and evaluation systems.
  3. Enhance financial sustainability, including investment readiness support where applicable.

Benefits:

Selected EdTech companies, known as “Fellows,” will receive specialized acceleration support valued at over R2,500,000, courtesy of Injini and the Mastercard Foundation.

  • Access to courses and office hours from faculty members at Carnegie Mellon University, a global leader in education technology.
  • Contribution to a growing body of evidence documenting effective practices in African EdTech.
  • Equity-free venture funding exceeding R1,000,000.

Eligibility:

The ideal EdTech company for the Fellowship Program should:

  • Target a significant market opportunity, with a focus on South Africa.
  • Offer a tech-enabled solution to increase access and enhance educational outcomes, preferably supporting learners in pre-primary education, primary and secondary education, and/or teacher training.
  • Be a post-revenue, growth-stage startup (annual revenue likely exceeding R1,000,000) or a non-profit entity with grant funding constituting annual revenue.
  • Have the potential to reach 8,000 direct learners within one year of program participation.
  • Be led by a diverse team with a strong understanding of their operational context.

Application Process:

Applications open on January 22, 2024, and close on February 13, 2024. The selection process involves:

  1. Application Form Submission
  2. Virtual Interviews
  3. Due Diligence
  4. Pitches (in Cape Town on March 26 and 27, 2024)

Successful candidates will be notified by March 28, 2024, and the program kicks off on April 1, 2024, culminating in a Cohort Kick-off Event in Cape Town on April 11, 2024.
